OK, so I'm out of here,

and won't be back until 4/5/13. I'm heading to Oakland and Berkeley, with brief stops in St. Louis, Reno, Cheyenne and a few other places. If you're in the Bay Area, you can catch me at the events below, plus a couple more poetry readings, to be announced later. Cheers!--Linh

Collapsing Vietnam, Collapsing America

March 7 | 4-6 p.m. | Stephens Hall, 220, Geballe Room, Townsend Center for the Humanities, UC Berkeley

In his first public lecture as an Avenali Resident Fellow, Linh Dinh will discuss his preoccupation with collapse, including how the fall of South Vietnam in 1975 has influenced his thinking and writing, as seen in his novel, Love Like Hate, and how this formative event in his life has colored his view of the world and of history.

Nativating Languages: Challenges and Opportunities of the Non-Native Writer

March 8 | 4-5:30 p.m. | Stephens Hall, 220, Geballe Room, Townsend Center for the Humanities, UC Berkeley

In his second (of three) public lectures, Linh Dinh will read from the writing he has done in Vietnamese, and discuss how it differs from what he writes in English, and why he feels compelled to write in this language, as well as in English.

THE DELUGE: NEW VIETNAMESE POETRY

March 14 | 4-6:00 p.m. | Dwinelle Hall, UC Berkeley

Linh Dinh will discuss his translations of contemporary Vietnamese poetry and literature, and outline his thinking about translation, how he chooses works to translate and how he approaches writers.
